East Meath is under pressure once again from development without infrastructure and resources. We haven’t learnt any lessons from the previous housing bubble where we built thousands of houses without roads, schools or community facilities.
The aim of this group is to ensure that future development in East Meath only takes place with strong environmental protections.
Protect East Meath is a private limited company established as a non-profit aimed at protecting the environment in East Meath. It is represented by Julianstown resident, Fred Logue of FP Logue Solicitors who has acted in many ground breaking environmental cases before national and international courts. You can read about FP Logue’s key cases and reports in the media by clicking on the links.
FP Logue provides the majority of its services to Protect East Meath on a pro-bono or contingency basis to ensure that future development in the area comes with strong environmental protections.
Protect East Meath’s projects to date include:
- Ensuring beach management plan included appropriate assessment of adverse effects on protected sites
- Securing registration of former Old Mill on register of derelict sites
- High Court challenge to planning permission for large housing development at the Marsh Road in Drogheda (ongoing)
- High Court challenge to planning permission for a large housing development at Rathmullan Road in Drogheda (ongoing)

We need your help
Please help us improve our environment and to protect East Meath:
‘Protect East Meath’ is collecting donations to fund a legal challenge against An Bord Pleanála’s decision to grant permission for 250 houses in Bryanstown. Permission was granted without any assessment of the effects of increased traffic on Julianstown
Meath County Council accepts that a bypass of Julianstown is badly needed to handle all the traffic generated by development in East Meath and Drogheda but plans for this are decades away.
The traffic generated by the Bryanstown development will cause even more traffic congestion in East Meath and will increase air pollution and noise in the village of Julianstown.
While we are not against development in Drogheda the serious environmental consequences for Julianstown have to be taken into account.
All funds raised will go towards legal costs and administration costs.
